Stories to Inspire!

Healthpro and Paibare empowering Health Professionals to use true stories to transform lives

In 2011, Paibare conducted trainings on "Telling Stories To Inspire" for 13 provinces’ Local Government Unit Health Division members and media personnel for HealthPro.
HealthPro is a five-year USAID Philippines project to support health-related behavior change communication. Its health programs include: Maternal & Child Health, Family Planning, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and, emerging infectious diseases.

To enable the participants to deliver health-related stories and key messages more remarkably, health professionals and key officials of the Local Governments learn by doing - using mind mapping, they recall and document their most memorable experience in serving the health needs of their community. They are then armed with basic pointers on how to communicate in front of the camera, and immediately are ushered into a television interview where they tell their story. The experience was liberating for a lot of the participants, as they watch their interview broadcasted to the group, they develop the will and the confidence to use their life experiences to inspire the public towards healthier lifestyles.

The next day, participants form the local media are invited to see the gallery of stories illustrated in mind maps posted in the walls of the conference. They choose one story each that they would like to publish or broadcast. They then watch the videos of the health professionals telling their stories; and in a workshop, prepare their proposals on how to publish or broadcast the story.

The trainings were held in the provinces of Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga Sibugay, Cagayan, Isabela, Agusan del Norte, Leyte, Samar, Aklan, Albay, Iloilo, Compostela Valley and Tarlac.
